phaṛ·phaṛānā vt to flutter: पक्षी या फंतिंगा अपने पंख/पर फड़फड़ाते है a bird or moth flutters its wings.

phoṛ·nā vt [vide फूंटना] (a) to crack: अंडा (खोपड़ी, बादाम) ~ -- egg (skull, almonds). (b) to break: किसी का सिर ~ -- smb's head; उसने मेरी बोतल फोड़ डाली he/she broke off my bottle. (c) गवाह ~ to make a witness defect; भंडा ~ to divulge a secret. [vi फूटना, syn. तोड़ना]

phir·tā a moving: ~ माल, साधु -- goods, mendicant; फिरती तस्वीरें -- pictures; फिरते लोग -- people.

phãs·nā vi (a) to be entangled: हिरन जाल में फँस गया the deer was entangled/caught in a net; वह काँटों में जा फँसा he got enangled in thorns. (b) to be entrapped: शेर जंगल मे फँसा पड़ा था the lion was lying entrapped in the forest; वह दलदल में फँस गई she was entrapped in quag- mire [fig. too]. (c) to be involved: झंझट या मुकद्दमे में ~ -- in trouble or a law-suit; वे दोनों प्रेम में फँसे थे they were involved in love.

phuṅkār fu hissing: साँप की ~ -- of the snake; ~ मारना to hiss = फुँकारना. [syn. फुफकार]

phenṭ·nā vt (a) to beat: अंडे (दही, गारा) ~ -- eggs (curd, mud). (b) ताश ~ to shuffle (playing) cards.

faqīr mc mendicant (particularly a Muslim), faqir [चलाता-फिरता wandering, निर्धन penniless]. △ पुरानी लकीर का ~ orthodox; ~ का घर बड़ा होता है a saint has a large heart. [syn. साधु (Hindu)]

fazūl·ḵẖarchī fu extravagance: ~ में बेटे ने सब कुछ नष्ट कर दिया the son wasted everything in --; ~ करना to be extravagant; △ ~ पर कमर बाँधे रखना to burn the candle at both ends.

phisal·nā vi (a) to slip: उसका पैर फिसल गया his foot slipped; उसके हाथ से मछली फिसल गई the fish slipped out of his/her hand. (b) to skid: कच्ची सड़क पर कार फिसल गई the car skidded on the unmetalled road. △ तुम उसे देखकर फिसल पड़े you saw her and were inclined towards her.
