phãs·nā vi (a) to be entangled: हिरन जाल में फँस गया the deer was entangled/caught in a net; वह काँटों में जा फँसा he got enangled in thorns. (b) to be entrapped: शेर जंगल मे फँसा पड़ा था the lion was lying entrapped in the forest; वह दलदल में फँस गई she was entrapped in quag- mire [fig. too]. (c) to be involved: झंझट या मुकद्दमे में ~ -- in trouble or a law-suit; वे दोनों प्रेम में फँसे थे they were involved in love.

farishtā mc angel [दयालु compassionable, नेक gentle, नरम- दिल soft-hearted]; मौत का ~ -- of death; नेकी का ~ an -- of goodness. △ किसी के फ़रिश्तों को भी ख़बर न होना not to have the slightest inkling. [syn. देवदूत]

phatiṅgā mc moth: ~ उड़ रहा है a -- is flying; फतिंगे पर फड़फड़ा रहे हैं moths are fluttering their wings; दिये पर ~ मँडराता है a -- hovers about a lamp.

phã̄s fc (a) noose = फंदा q. v. (b) splinter: ~ गड़/चुभ गयी the -- pricked in; ~ निकल गया the splinter is out, △ the source of agony has been removed.

phã̄d fc leap: एक ही ~ में in one --; फाँदें लगाना to leap and jump. [usu. in कूद-फाँद]
