vartamān a (a) existing, present [अधिकारी officer, संस्था institution, स्थिति situation, व्यवस्था order]; ~ काल present tense. (b) current, present [दरें rates, फ़ैशन fashion, राजनिति politics, लागत cost]; ~ समय में at present, currently; ~ सदस्य sitting member.

varan conj. but, rather, on the other hand: मैं नहीं गया था, ~ वही आया था I had not gone, -- he himself came.

vārā-nyārā (a) mu settlement: झगड़े का ~ -- of a dispute; ~ करना to settle. (b) mc change of fortune: सट्टे में उसके वारे-न्यारे हो गये he had a change of fortune in speculation.

vishiṣṭatā fu/c (a) singularity: चरित्र की ~ -- of character. (b) characteristic: जाति (पुरुष, वस्तु) की ~ -- of any nation (person, thing).

vinamratā fu humility, courtesy: नौकर, विद्यार्थी को ~ -- of the servant, student; वह ~ से बोला he said humbly/courteously.

vaG āīrah adv et cetra, and so on: किताबें, कपड़े, बर्तन ~ books, clothes, utensils, etc. ~ वग़ैरह so on and so forth. [syn. आदि, इत्यादि]
