ṭhahar·nā vi (a) to halt, to stop: गाड़ी यहाँ भी ठरहती है the train halts/stops here too. (b) to stay: अगली बार हमारे पास ठरहिए please stay with us next time; बच्चे वहाँ बहुत देर नहीं ठहरे children did not stay there long; रंग ठहरेगा नहीं the colour will not stay. /ठंढा ṭhaṇḍā/ṭhaṇḍhā a (a) cold; cool [दिन day, कमरा room, पानी water]; ठंडी/ठंढी रात (हवा, साँस, जलवायु) -- night (wind, breath, climate). (b) बाज़ार ~ है the market is dull; किसी को ~ करना to pacify smb; ~ पड़ना/होना to cool down, to be pacified. △ वह वहीं ~ हो गया he became lifeless there; ~ करके खाओ blow first and sip afterwards, lie patient; ~ लोहा गरम लोहे को काटता है a soft answer turns away wrath; कलेजा ~ होना to have one's revenge, to feel happy; ठंडी/ठंढी साँस/आह भरना to heave a deep sigh; ठंढे-ठंढे during the cool hours of the day.
