bikhar·nā vi (a) to scatter: बादल (बीज, लोग) बिखर गये clouds (seeds, people) scattered away. (b) बाल बिखरे हुए थे hair was dishevelled.

barrāī mc [unchanged] hornet. wasp: ~ काटता है a -- stings; ~ भिनभिनाते हैं -- are buzzing; ~ का छत्ता --'s nest, (also fig.) △ ~ के छत्ते में हाथ डालना to stir up a hornet's nest, to stir up mischief.

buhārī fc broom: ~ देना to sweep. = झाड़ू q. v.

bārish fc = बरसात, वर्षा q. v.; ~ होना to rain = बरसना q. v.

bāsī a stale [मांस meat, रोटी bread, समाचार news]; ~ हो जाना to go --. △ ~ कढ़ी में उबाल young ways in old age; ~ बचे न कुत्ता खाये eat all and don't lay by.

bah·lānā vt to amuse: बच्चों को ~ -- the children; किसी को चुटकलों से बहलाये रखना to keep smb amused with jokes; मन-बहलाने के लिए in order to divert one's mind.

bil·bilānā vi to whine: बच्चा बिलबिलाता है the child whines; कुत्ता दर्द से बिलबिला रहा है the dog is whining with pain.

bahak·nā vi to go astray, to wander: वह अपने विषय से बहक गया he wandered away from his subject; बहका-बहका incoherent; बहककर बोलना to talk incoherently. [vt बहकाना, n. बहकावा]

be- pref. without, in-, un-: बे-अदब impolite; बे-इंसाफ़ी injustice; बेकार unemployed; बेघर homeless; etc. [see below. There is a large number of such words, mostly, बे be- + noun = adj. or adv Noun is formed by · ī suffix.]
