paṛh·nā vt (a) to read: यह पुस्तक मत पढ़ो don't read this book; मैंने पत्र पढ़ा I read a letter; वह कहानी पढ़ता है he reads a story; वह ऊँचे नहीं पढ़ सकता he cannot read aloud; वह अंग्रेजी पढ़ना चाहता है he desires to read English; नीचे के वाक्य पढ़ डालो/लो read out the sentences below; उसने हमें एक कहानी पढ़ कर सुनाई she/he read us a story; मुझे पढ़ना पड़ा I had to read. (b) to recite: कविता ~ -- a poem. (c) study: वह विश्‍वविद्यालय में पढ़ती है she studies at the university. पढ़ा हुआ आदमी educated person; वह पढ़ा तो है गुना नहीं he is educated but not experienced.
