ghul·nā vi 1. to melt, dissolve; पानी में चीनी घुल जाती है sugar --s in water; मुँह में टॉफ़ी घुल गई toffee melted in the mouth; घुला हुआ नमक dissolved salt; घुली हुई चीनी dissolved sugar. 2. to waste away: रोग से उसका शरीर घुला जा रहा है his body is wasting away with illness. ghis·nā I. vi to be rubbed, to be worn out: बर्तन or कपड़ा घिस गया है the utensil या cloth is worn out; घिसघिस कर चलना to walk slowly; एड़ियाँ घिस गई the heels are impaired; घिसा हुआ सिक्का defaced coin, घिसा हुआ कारीगर tried/experienced artisan; धीरे-धीरे वह इस काम में घिस गया slowly he became experienced in this work. II. vt to rub, to wear out: बर्तन पर राख ~ to rub ash on a utensil; चंदन ~ -- sandal-wood; पत्थर पर घिस दो/डालो rub it on a stone.
