ujaṛ·nā vi to be ruined; बेचारा उजड़ गया the poor fellow is ruined; गाँव उजड़ते हैं और फिर बसते हैं villages are ruined & then re- habilitated.

gāy I. fc cow; दुधारु ~ milch cow; ~ और बछड़ा -- and calf; ~ दोहना to milk a --; कुछ गायें मैदान में चर रही हैं some --s are grazing in the meadow; ~ रँभाती/डकारती है -- lows. II. m & fc meek and harmless; वह बेचारा तो ~ है the poor fellow is meek and harmless (like a cow). [syn. गौ, गऊ]

tabāh a [usu. predicative] destroyed, ruined: वह बेचारा ~ हो गया the poor fellow was ruined; सारी इमारत ~ हो गई the whole building was --; जहाज़ ~ हो गया the ship was wrecked. ~ करना to ruin, to wreck: अपना स्वास्थ्य ~ कर दिया ruined his health; किसी की उम्मीदें ~ करना to wreck smb's hopes. bechārā I. a helpless, poor, unfortunate [कुत्ता dog, लड़का boy]; बेचारी बूआ (चिड़िया, बिल्ली) the -- aunt (sparrow, cat); बेचारे नन्हे-नन्हे बच्चे the -- little children. II. mc the poor fellow: ~ गिरा और मर गया -- fell down and died.

vilāp mc lamentation, wailing: विधवा का ~ -- of a widow; ~ करना to lament, to wail over; बेचारी माँ बच्चे की मौत पर ~ करती रही the poor mother kept wailing over (lamenting) the death of her son.
