(b) to be in suspense: मैं कब तक यों ही लटका रहूँगा how long shall I remain in suspense ? [vt लटकाना]

likhat fc written deed, instrument [also लिखत-पढ़त]; ~ हो जानी चाहिए a deed/instrument should be written down. [cf. लिखित]

lāchār a (a) helpless [आदमी person, हालत condition]; वह पैसे के बिना ~ है he is -- without money; ~ होकर वह लौट आया Being --, he came back. (b) constrained, compelled: उसे ऐसा करने के लिए ~ किया गया he was -- to do so. cf. वह कोई काम करने से ~ है he is unable to do any work, वह कोई काम करने को ~ है he is forced to do some work. lipaṭ·nā vi (a) to cling: बच्चा माँ से लिपट गया the child clung to its mother. (b) to stick: काग़ज़ से लिपटे हुए नोट notes stuck to the paper. (c) to coil around: तार रील पर लिपटा था wire was coiled around the reel. [syn. (a) चिपटना, (b) लपेटा जाना]

laṛ·kī fc (a) girl [प्यारी sweet, लंबी tall, सुंदर pretty]; इस लड़की के लंबे-लंबे बाल है this -- has long hair; हमारे गाँव की लड़कियाँ --s of our village; लड़कियों का कॉलेज girls' college. (b) daughter: यह मेरी बड़ी ~ है she is my eldest --. (c) bride: हमारे भतीजे के लिए कोई ~ चाहिये we want a -- for our nephew; ~ वाले people on the --'s side.

lalak·nā vi to yearn, to long: वह मिलने के लिए ललकता है he yearns to meet.

las fu stickiness: चाशनी, घोल, गोंद की ~ -- of syrup, solution, glue.

lāt-mukkā mc kicking and boxing; ~ करना to kick and to box; लात-मुक्के चल गये a hand-to-hand fight ensued.

lāthī-chārja mc lathi- charge; ~ करना to lathi-charge; पुलिस ने भीड़ पर ~ किया the police --d the crowd.

luṛbak·nā vi to roll down: गेंद मेज़ के नीचे लुढ़क गया the ball rolled down the table; पहाड़ी से पत्थर लुढ़कते हैं stones roll down the hill [vt लुढ़काना]; (fig.) वह इम्तहान में लुढ़क गया he failed in the examination.
