lāḍ·lā, [eastern] लाड़ला lāṛ·lā a darling, fondling [बच्चा child, बेटा son]; लाड़ली लड़की -- daughter.

lolup a greedy = लोभी, लालची q. v.

lak·ṛī fc wood [कड़ी hard, ठोस solid, गीली wet, सूखी dry]; इमारती ~ timber; ~ का कोयला charcoal; ~ का काम wood-work; ~ की कुर्सी wooden chair; ~ का कारख़ाना timber works; जलाने की ~ fuel wood; ~ काटना, चीरना, जलाना to chop, saw, burn --; △ ~ सा as lean and thin as --; ~ हो गया है he has become lean and thin.

līḍar mc leader: पार्टी का ~ -- of the party; = नेता q. v.

lihāf mc (a coarse) quilt. See रज़ाई.

luṭerā mc robber, marauder; लुटेरों ने रास्ता रोक लिया the --s obstructed the way; एक सिपाही ~ बन गया a soldier turned into a --; लुटेरे बदुंकों से लैस थे the --s were equipped with guns.

lāchār a (a) helpless [आदमी person, हालत condition]; वह पैसे के बिना ~ है he is -- without money; ~ होकर वह लौट आया Being --, he came back. (b) constrained, compelled: उसे ऐसा करने के लिए ~ किया गया he was -- to do so. cf. वह कोई काम करने से ~ है he is unable to do any work, वह कोई काम करने को ~ है he is forced to do some work. [syn. विवश, मजबूर]

lāt-mukkā mc kicking and boxing; ~ करना to kick and to box; लात-मुक्के चल गये a hand-to-hand fight ensued.

loth fc dead body, carcass = लाश q. v.
