[various meanings, commonly used to make verbs from nouns and adjectives e.g.] काम ~ to work; आशा ~ to hope; इलाज ~ to treat; छँटनी ~ to retrench; जुरमाना ~ to fine; तुलना ~ to compare; दर्द ~ to pain, to ache; नक़ल ~ to copy, to imitate; प्रतीक्षा ~ to wait; देर करना to delay, to be late; प्यार ~ to love; बात ~ to talk; सहायता ~ to help; सुधार ~ to reform; स्वीकार ~ to accept; उपस्थित ~ to present; कम ~ to reduce; गरम ~ to heat; जल्दी करो hurry up, be quick, make haste; ठीक ~ to correct; तंग ~ to tease; ताज़ा ~ to refresh; तैयार ~ to prepare; दर्ज ~ to enter; नया ~ to renew; नष्ट ~ to destroy, to waste; मुक्‍त ~ to free. [Hindi and therefore this dictionary abounds in such constructions, where conjuncts with करना, होना, लेना, देना, etc. are usual verbal formations. Many an English verb is also used in this manner. It is commonly understood. Examples --] अपील ~ to appeal; असेंबल ~ to assemble; इंट्रोड्‍यूस ~ to introduce; कंट्रोल ~ to control; कंपोज़ ~ to compose (in printing); टाइप ~ to type; नोट ~ to note; पालिश ~ to polish, काग़ज़ फ़ाइल ~ to file papers; फ़ोन ~ to telephone; बुक ~ to book; ब्राडकास्ट ~ to broadcast; मैच ~ to match.
जगाना
jagānā vt (a) to awaken, to wake up: उसे जगा दो wake him up, उसे पाँच बजे जगाया गया he/she was awakened at 5 O'clock. (b) to arouse: उत्साह (रुचि, हमदर्दी) ~ -- enthusiasm (interest, sympathy). (c) जादू ~ to conjure up magic. [vi जागना, जगना; n. जाग, also see. जागरण, जाग्रत, जाग्रति]

jal·sā mc 1. meeting = बैठक q. v. 2. function = उत्सव q. v.
परिणाम
pariṇām mu (a) result [अंतिम final, अच्छा good, उत्साहवर्धक encouraging, घातक fatal, बढ़िया excellent]; इस बार परीक्षा का ~ ख़राब था this time the examination result was bad; निर्वाचन का क्या ~ था what was the ~ of the election ? इसका कोई ~ न निकला it led to no --; इससे हम यह ~ निकालते हैं we conclude/infer from it that. (b) consequences: उसे इसका ~ भोगना पड़ेगा he/she will have to face the consequences.
मनाना
manānā vt 1. (a) to celebrate: वार्षिक उत्सव ~ -- the anniversary; जन्मदिन मनाया गया in the birthday was celebrated; होली मनाओ celebrated the Holi. (b) to observe: छुट्टी or मातम ~ -- holiday या mourning. 2. (a) to appease, to conciliate: रूठे हुए को ~ -- an offended person. (b) to pray: मै़ं ईश्‍वर से यही मनाता हूँ I pray to God for the same.
रहा-सहा
rahā-sahā a remaining: ~ उत्साह the -- zeal, the enthusiasm left over; रही-सही प्रतिष्ठा भी गई the -- honour was also lost. [syn. बचाखुचा]
लालायित
lālāyit a wistful, anxious: मैं आपके दर्शनों के लिए ~ रहता हूँ I am always -- to see you. [syn. उत्सुक]
