līchaṛ a stingy, miserly; ~ आदमी -- fellow.

likhā-paṛhī fu (a) written negotiations: दोनों दलों के बीच में ~ चल रही हैं -- are going on between the two parties; ~ करना to negotiate in writing. (b) correspondence: प्रति दिन बहुत ~ करनी पड़ती है a lot of -- has to be done every day.

livānā vt to bring: वे अतिथि को लिवाने गये हैं they have gone -- the guest; मैं मित्रों को पार्टी पर लिवा लाया I fetched my friends to the party.

luṭānā vt to squander: रुपया, बचत ~ -- money, savings; व्यापारी ने सारा माल सस्ते दामों लुटा दिया the businessman gave away the entire goods at a cheap price.

lūṭ-khasoṭ fu [emphatic for लूट q. v.] plunder, pillage.

lah·lahānā vi to flourish, to bloom: खेती लहलहा रही है the crop is in bloom; लहलहाते पौधे blooming plants.

lāūṭ·nā vi to return, to come/go back: लौट आना to come back; लौट जाना to go back; टीम घर को लौटी the team returned home; मैं जब बम्बई से लौटा when I returned from Bombay; हम उसी प्रश्न पर फिर लौट आएँगे we shall return to the same question again; वह दफ़्तर से पाँच बजे लौटता है he returns from the office at 5 o'clock; लौटती डाक से by return post.

lapetnā vt (a) to fold: काग़ज़, चादर, बिस्तर लपेट दीजिए please fold the paper, the sheet, the bedding; काग़ज़ में पार्सल लपेटा जाता है a parcel is folded in a paper. (b) to roll up, wind up, wrap दरी ~ -- a carpet; रील पर धागा लपेटो roll up thread round the reel; बच्चे को शाल से लपेटा wrapped a shawl round the baby. (e) to involve: युद्ध में ~ -- in a war.

lay fu rhythm; लहरों, संगीत, कविता की ~ -- of tides, music, poetry; ~ और ताल -- and time; ~ से पढ़ना to read rhythmically.

lipibaddha a reduced to writing, written: ~ साहित्य -- literature; ~ करना to reduce to writing, to write down: मैंने उनका व्याख्यान ~ कर लिया I reduced his lecture to writing.
