laṭṭū I. mc top: बच्चे लट्टुओं से खेलते हैं children play with their --s; ~ घुमाना/फिराना/नचाना to spin the top. II. a enamoured [used predicatively]: वह उस पर ~ है he is -- of her; पहली नज़र में ही मैं उस पर ~ हो गया at the very first sight I got -- of him.

lāyaq a (a) able [नौकर servant, लड़का boy, लड़की girl]; मैं वहाँ जाने ~ नहीं था I was not -- to go there. (b) fit: खेती के ~ ज़मीन field -- for agriculture; रहने ~ मकान house -- for living. [syn. योग्य]

lūṭ-khasoṭ fu [emphatic for लूट q. v.] plunder, pillage.

¹ lākh a a hundred thousand, lakh: मेले में चार ~ लोग थे there were four hundred thousand people at the fair; लाखों चींटियाँ hundreds of thousands of ants. △ ~ का घर ख़ाक करना to ruin all, to ruin a well-to-do family; ~ जी से with all one's heart; ~ टके की बात an invaluable remark; ~ जाए पर साख न जाए a good name is better than bags of gold; ~ कही पर एक न मानी much advice but little heed.
