bun·nā vt (a) to weave; जुलाहा कपड़ा बुनता है the weaver weaves cloth; कारीगरों ने दरियाँ बुनीं the artisans wove carpets; मकड़ी जाला बुनती है the spider spins/ weaves a web. (b) [loosely for] बिनना to knit.

baṛhānā vt (a) to increase: उत्पादन (कीमतें, दंड, धन, बजट, व्यय, शक्‍ित) ~ -- production (prices, punishment, wealth, budget, expenditure, power). (b) to extend: छुट्ठी (परिचय, नौकरी की अवधि, तार, लाइन, हाथ) ~ -- leave [familiarity, period of service, wire, line, (a helping) hand]. (c) to grow: नाख़ून (बाल, दाढ़ी) ~ -- nails (hair, beard). (d) अपना काम ~ -- one's work; रोज़गार ~ to expand/develop business; झगड़ा or वैर ~ to aggravate trouble या enmity; आमदनी ~ to augment income; प्रतिष्ठा ~ to enhance prestige; दिया ~ to extinguish a lamp; दुकान ~ to close the shop; चूड़ियाँ ~ to put off bangles. -bandī suff. -binding, -shutting [as in] गुटबंदी (binding people in groups) groupism, नाकेबंदी shutting up a passage, blockade, etc.

² baṭṭā mu blemish: उसके नाम में ~ लगा his name was tarnished; ~ लगाना to blemish = कलंक.

buhārī fc broom: ~ देना to sweep. = झाड़ू q. v.

bitānā vt (a) to pass, to spend: तुम अपना समय कैसे बिताते हो ? how do you pass/spend your time ? मैंने दो घंटे बिताये, रात बितायी, छुट्टियाँ बितायीं I spent two hours, spent a night, spent holidays. (b) to live, to lead: हमने यहाँ आराम़ से जीवन बिताया we led/ lived a restful life here. [syn. गुज़ारना, vi बीतना]

be- pref. without, in-, un-: बे-अदब impolite; बे-इंसाफ़ी injustice; बेकार unemployed; बेघर homeless; etc. [see below. There is a large number of such words, mostly, बे be- + noun = adj. or adv Noun is formed by · ī suffix.]
