gaḍḍ-maḍḍa I. adv in a muddle, in confusion, helter-skelter = अंड-बंड q. v. II. a mixed, muddled [काग़ज़ papers, पते addresses].

gandā a (a) ugly [चित्र picture, बच्चा child, मुँह face, रंग colour]; गंदी जगह -- place; वह कितना ~ है how -- he is ! (b) dirty [कमरा room, काम work, रूमाल handkerchief] गंदी नाली -- drain; ~ नाला sewer, gutter; गंदी बस्ती slum; गंदे हाथ -- hands. (c) bad [आदमी man, आचरण conduct]; गंदे विचार evil thoughts; ~ स्थान nasty place; गंदी बू foul smell.

gamanāgaman mu lit. going and coming; traffic; ~ का प्रबन्ध traffic arrangements; ~ के साधन means of traffic.

Gaf·lat fu negligence; किसी काम में ~ करना to show -- in some work; ~ की नींद carelessness; ~ की नींद सोया है he is lying careless. [syn. असावधानी]

gū̃th·nā vt to intertwine, to braid; माला (चोटी, मोती) ~ -- garland (lock of hair, pearls); गुँथी हुई वेणी braided plait; गुँथे हुए बाल braided hair.

gāṛ·nā vt (a) bury; धन/रुपया (मुरदा) ~ -- money (dead body), उसे क़ब्र में गाड़ दिया गया he/she was buried in the grave. (b) to fix up; उन्होंने खंभे (झंडे, बाँस) गाड़े they fixed up poles (flags, bamboos). (c) to drive in; खूँटी or कील गाड़ो drive in a peg या a nail, (d) to pitch; मैंने एक तंबू गाड़ दिया I pitched up a tent. (e) to implant; पेड़ ~ -- a tree. [vi गड़ना]

gum·rāh a misguided, misled [लोग people, नौजवान youths, लड़कियाँ girls]; ~ करना to mislead; वह बच्चे को ~ करके बम्बई ले गया he took the child to Bombay by misleading him.

goṭī fc piece (in games); लकड़ी or हाथीदाँत की ~ a -- of wood या ivory; शतरंज की ~ chess piece, chessman; ~ से खेलना to play with a --. △ ~ जमाना/बैठाना to accomplish one's object, to succeed in a plan. [syn. गोहरा].

garī fc (a) copra, kernel of a coconut [नरम soft, सूखी dry]; ~ खायी जाती है -- is eaten. ~ का तेल coconut oil. (b) kernel; अखरोट (बादाम, ख़ूबानी) की ~ -- of walnut (almond, apricot).
