ḵẖās a special, particular [आदमी person, ढंग way/method, मकान house, सड़क road]; कोई ~ बात नहीं ~ there is nothing -- to say; कोई ~ काम नहीं है there is nothing -- to do. ~ करके, ~ तौर पर particularly, specially, in particular; ख़ास-ख़ास आदमी selected persons: भीतर ~ ~ आदमी जा सकते हैं only selected persons can go in. ḵẖud·kushī fu (self-killing) suicide = आत्महत्या q. v.

ḵẖayālī a imaginary; △ ~ पुलाव पकाना to indulge in vain fancies, to build castles in the air.

ḵẖāūf mu dread; ~ खाना to dread, to be in dread. [more common डर, भय]

ḵẖūn-pasīnā mu blood and sweat; △ अपना ~ बहाना or अपना ~ एक बार देना to toil in the sweat of one's brow.

khur·chan fu (a) scrapings; मिठाई (हलवे, खोए) की ~ -- of sweet-meat (halwa/pudding, thickened milk). (b) a kind of sweet also called rubri.

² khaṛā a vertical: खड़ी रेखा -- line.

khet mc 1. (a) field [उपजाऊ fertile, ऊसर/बंजर barren, जोता हुआ tilled]; ~ में गायें घास चरती हैं cows graze grass in the --; ~ जोतना to plough the --; ~ कमाना to manure a -- properly. (b) crop; ~ काटना to reap the harvest; ~ माँड़ना to separate grain. 2. battle- field; △ ~ आना/रहना to be killed in action: इतने जवान पिछली लड़ाई में ~ रहे so many soldiers were killed in the battlefield.
