khaṭ·paṭ fu bickering, wrangling; उनकी ~ हो हुई they had a --; they are on bad terms. [syn. अनबन]

khān·pān mu (a) eating and drinking; (b) living; ~ का प्रबंध arrangement for --. उनका ~ अच्छा है they have a good standard of living; उनसे हमारा ~ नहीं है we have no social relationship with them.

ḵẖūb·sūr·tī fu beauty; कपड़ों (चेहरे, मकान, लड़की) की ~ -- of clothes (face, house, girl); उसने यह काम कितनी ~ से किया how beautifully has he/she done this work! [syn. सुन्दरता]

khaṛā a standing [आदमी man खंभा pole, मकान house]; खड़ी लड़की (फ़सल) -- girl (crop); खड़े लोग -- people; △ ~ जवाब retort; खड़ी सवारी urgent passenger; खड़े पाँव without stopping: वहाँ से खड़े पाँव लौट आना return without stopping there; ~ पानी stagnant water. ~ करना 1. to stand: दीवार के सहारे साइकल खड़ा करो stand the cycle against the wall; to cause to stand; लड़के को बेंच पर ~ कर दिया made the boy stand up on the bench; 2. to raise; प्रश्न ~ करना -- a question; 3. park; गाड़ी ~ करना to -- a vehicle; 4. pitch; खेमा ~ करना -- a tent; 5. stir up; झगड़ा ~ करना to stir up a quarrel; 6. build, erect; भवन ~ करना to -- a building; 7. उम्मीदवार ~ करना to put up a candidate; झंडा ~ करना to hoist a flag. ~ होना (a) to stand (up); एक लड़का ~ है a boy is standing there; खड़े हो जाओ stand up; नौकर लाइन में ~ था the servant stood in the line/queue; (b) to arise; प्रश्न खड़ा है the question arises.

kharāpan mu 1. purity; सोने का ~ -- of gold. 2. uprightness, straightforwardness; आदमी or व्यवहार का ~ -- of a person या dealings.

² ḵẖud [prefixed in compounds] self- as in ~-कुशी, ~-ग़रज़, ~-ग़रज़ी, ~-मुख़्तार q. v. below.

ḵẖas fu khas grass; ~ का शरबत syrup of khas; ~ की टट्टी a khas screen; गर्मिया में लोग ~ की टट्टी लगाते और ~ का शरबत पीते हैं in summer people put up khas screens and take khas syrup.

ḵẖazānā mc 1. treasure [छिपा hidden, भारा immense]; उन्हें पत्थर के नीचे दबा ~ मिला they found a -- buried under the rock. 2. treasury [बैंक का bank, सरकारी government]; चार बजे ~ बंद हो जाता है the -- is closed at 4 O'clock; खजाने की रसीद -- receipt. [syn. कोष]
