aṭak·nā vi 1. to get stuck (up); उसके गले में हड्डी अटक गई a bone stuck in his throat. 2. to stop; वह सोचते-सोचते अटक गया he stopped while thinking [syn. रुकना]. 3. to be held up; पतंग पेड़ पर अटकी है the kite is held up (entangled) on the tree.

āvashyak·tā fc 1. necessity, need, want [अत्यधिक dire, बड़ी/भारी great]; ~ पड़ने पर in case of need; मुझे एक घड़ी की ~ है I need (I am in need of) a watch; उन्हें एक योग्य प्रशिक्षक की ~ है they need an able instructor; उसे वहाँ रुकने की ~ नहीं है he need not stay there. 2. (pl.) necessities, requirements जीवन की साधारण ~ एँ ordinary -- of life; समाज की ~ एँ -- of society. [syn. ज़रूरत]

kadāchit adv (also ~ ही) perhaps, may be that; ~ आप भी रुकना चाहेंगे -- you will also like to stay.

ṭhahar·nā vi (a) to halt, to stop: गाड़ी यहाँ भी ठरहती है the train halts/stops here too. (b) to stay: अगली बार हमारे पास ठरहिए please stay with us next time; बच्चे वहाँ बहुत देर नहीं ठहरे children did not stay there long; रंग ठहरेगा नहीं the colour will not stay. (c) to wait: थोड़ा ठहर जाओ wait a bit. (d) तुम तो हमारे भाई ठहरे you are, of- course, our brother. [syn. (a) (b) (c) रुकना]

tham·nā vi to stop, to cease: गाड़ी or बारिश थम गई the train या rain stopped. [syn. रुकना; vt थामना]

ruk·nā vi (a) to stop, to halt: गाड़ी इस स्टेशन पर नहीं रुकती the train does not stop/halt at this station; रुक जाओ stop ! halt ! वह दफ़्तर के पास रुका he stopped/ halted near the office; घड़ी रुक गई the watch stopped. (b) to pause: वह एक मिनट के लिए रुकी she paused for a minute. (c) to stay: मैं अपने मित्र के यहाँ रुकता हूँ I stay at my friend's; वह खाने के लिए वहाँ रुक गया he stayed there for dinner.
