bal·vān a strong, powerful [राजा king, व्यक़्ति person, सैनिक soldier, हाथ hand].

bachānā vt (a) to save: प्राण/जान (रुपया, संपत्ति, समय) ~ -- life (money, property, time); पुलिस ने बच्चों को बचाया the police saved the children; मौत (विपत्ति, आग, कुमार्ग) से ~ -- from death (calamity, fire, evil path). △ बचाया सो कमाया a penny saved is a penny gained.
