ṭhikānā mc (a) proper place, fixed abode: रहने का ~ proper place for living, right abode; ~ ढूँढना to find out a --; फ़ौजी ~ military station. (b) end, destination, goal: नाव ठिकाने लगी the boat reached its --; △ काम ठिकाने लगा the work was brought to its end; आदमी ठिकाने लगा the man came to his end, died; उसकी शरारत का कोई ठिकाना नहीं there is no end to his mischief. (c) certainty: इस मेज़ का क्या ~ is there any -- about this table ? उस आदमी का क्या ~ that man is unreliable. △ ठिकाने का आदमी a gentleman, a reasonable person; ठिकाने की बात a reasonable thing; बेठिकाने out of place.

ṭhokar fc 1. kick: ~ मारना/ लगाना to kick, △ to despise; एक ~ से with one --; △ ~ लगे तब आँख खुले failure makes one cautious, one becomes cautious after adversity. 2. stumbling block: △ ~ खाना to stumble; ~ खाकर गिरना to stumble and fall; (pl.) ठोकरें खाना to suffer misfortune: ठोकरें खाते फिरना to loiter about tossed by misfortune. ṭhahākā mc loud laugh, (peal of) laughter: उस कमरे से ~ सुनाई दिया a -- was heard from that room; ~ मारना/लगाना to laugh loudly, to burst into laughter.

(f) ~ वही same, very: ~ वही आदमी the very man; वह ~ दक्षिण को गया है he has gone to south; अपना सामना ~ कर लो check up your luggage; विवाह ~ करना to fix up marriage. II. adv (a) exactly, precisely: मुझे ~ याद नहीं है I don't remember --; ~ साल भर बाद -- after a year; ~ बारह बजे -- at 12 o'clock, ~ वैसा (ही) -- the same. (b) rightly: तुम ~ समझते हो you, understand --; ~ मध्य में -- in the middle. (c) well: तुमने बहुत ~ कहा you said very well; यह जूता ~ नहीं आता this shoe does not fit --.

ṭhīk-ṭhāk I. a [usu, predicative] (all) right, O.K., well: हम सब यहाँ ~ हैं we are -- here. II. adv rightly: मैंने घड़ी ~ कर दी है I have set the watch right.
