rah·nā vi 1. to live, to reside: हम पटना में रहते हैं we live in Patna; वह इस मकान में रहता था he lived/resided in this house; वह अकेली रहती है she lives alone; रहने का स्थान residence; रहने योग्य habitable; मैं उसके बिना नहीं रह सकता I cannot live without him/her. 2. to keep: वह सोचता रहा he kept thinking; चलते रहिये keep moving, बायें हाथ रहियेगा please keep to the left. 3. to stay: मैं उसके पास तीन दिन रहा I stayed with him/her for three days. 4. to be left: एक घंटा रह गया है an hour is left; ख़रगोश पीछे रह गया the hare was left behind. 5. [misc. uses] तुम जाओ मैं रहूँगा you may go, I shall remain here; अब मुझ से न रहा गया Now I could not desist (refrain myself); वह परीक्षा में रह गया he got plucked in the examination; ज़िंदगी रही तो if I am alive; △ नाक रह गई honour was saved; राजपाट बना रहा the rule remained intact; रहने देना to leave: यह मेज़ यहीं रहने दो leave the table where it is; to allow to stay/ remain: नौकर को यहाँ रहने दें let the servant stay here.
