² jeṭh mc husband's elder brother. [fem. जेठानी]

jantu mc creature: मछली, चूहा, साँप आदि ~ होते हैं fish, mouse, snake etc. are --s; ~ जगत् animal kingdom.

jananā vt to bear, to give birth (to), to produce; बच्चे ~ -- children.

jãch·nā vi 1. to be examined/checked: हिसाब जँच गया the account was examined/checked. 2. to appeal, to look attractive: यह राय जँच गई this opinion looked attractive; वह कपड़ा नहीं जँचा that cloth did not appeal.

jūtī fc [ladies' term] light shoe; △ ~ की नोक पर मारना to treat with contempt, to care a fig/damn; जूतियाँ उठाना to do menial chores; जूतियाँ चटकाते फिरना to roam about aimlessly; जूतियाँ सिर पर रखना to flatter servilely; जूतियाँ सीधी करना to cringe, to do menial service; जूतियो़ं मे़ं दाल बँटना to have a quarrel. judāī fu parting, separation; मित्रों की ~ -- of friends; ~ होना to be separated; उनकी एक दुसरे से ~ हो गई they were separated from one another.
