ghun·nā vi (a) to be eaten by a wood-worm/weevil; अलमारी घुन गई the almirah was eaten by weevils. (b) (fig.) उसका शरीर घुन रहा है his body is decaying (from inside).

ghup a [restricted to अँधेरा] ~ अंधेरा pitch dark; बिजली फ़ेल हो गई ओर घर भर में ~ अंधेरा छा ग़या the electricity failed and there was pitch dark in the whole house.

II. vt (a) to stare at, to peer at: बच्चे आश्चर्य से हाथी को घूरते रहे the children kept staring/peering at the elephant in wonder; उसने अपने चश्मे में से मुझे घूरकर देखा he/she stared/peered at me through his/her eye-glasses.

ghriṇā fu hate, hatred, scorn: उसने मेरी ओर ~ से देखा he looked at me with --; उसके मन में ~ थी he/she had -- in his/her heart; ~ करना to hate: चूहे बिल्लियों से ~ करते हैं rats hate cats; कुछ लोग ग़रीबों से ~ करते हैं some people -- the poor. [syn. नफ़रत]
