aiṭh·nā 1. v.i. (a) to warp; गीली लकड़ी ऐंठ जाती हैं the damp wood warps; (b) to stiffen; उसकी जीभ ऐंठ गई his/her tongue stiffened; (c) to be conceited; इसपर वह ऐंठ गया at this he got conceited. [syn. अकड़ना] 2. vt (a) to twist, wring; किसी के कान ~ -- smb's ears. [syn. मरोड़ना]; (b) to extort; किसी से रूपया ~ to extort money from smb.

āīse 1. a pl. see ऐसा. 2. adv. so, thus; ~ कहिए say so; वे ऐसे कहते हैं जैसे कुछ हुआ ही नहीं they say as if nothing has happened; ~ ही precisely so. 3. interj really ! is it so !
