taḵẖta mc (a) throne: ~ छोड़ना to abdicate the --; ~ पर बिठाना to enthrone; ~ पर बैठना to ascend the throne; ~ से उतारना to dethrone. (b) a low big wooden seat, takht: वे तख्तों पर सोते हैं they sleep on -- s; ~ पोश bed-sheet.

tin·kā mc straw: तिनके बिखेरना to scatter --; तिनके बटोरना to collect --; △ ~ तक न रहना to be robbed of everything; ~ दाँतों में पकड़ना/लेना to beg for mercy; ~ हो जाना to become thin and lean; तिनके का पहाड़ बनाना to make mountain out of a mole-hill; तिनके का सहारा लेना to catch at a --; तिनके की ओट पहाड़ a hill hidden behind straw, a big secret hidden under an apparent trifle.

triṣṇā fc craving: धन की ~ -- for wealth; ~ पूरी हो गई -- was satisfied.

tālluq mc relation, connection: मेरा उससे कोई ~ नहीं है I have nothing to do with him/her. [syn. संबंध q. v.]

tan·nā vi (a) to stretch: चादर or रस्सी आगे तक तन गई sheet या rope stretched further. (b) तंबू तन गया the tent was pitched. (c) भौंहें or मूँछें तन गईं eyebrows या moustaches stood erect; तनकर बैठो sit erect/upright. (d) बातों-बातों में वह तन गया during the talk he ran into temper.

taras mu compassion, pity: मुझे किसी पर ~ आता है, मैं किसी पर ~ खाता हूँ I take pity on smb. [syn. दया]

taraṅg fc (a) wave: ताप (शीत, प्रकाश, रेडियो, ध्वनि, समुद्री) ~ heat (cold, light, radio, sound, sea) --. (b) vibration: तार की ~ -- of a wire/string. (c) emotion, ecstacy: मन की ~ -- of the mind; ~ में आना/होना to be in pleasant mood. [syn. लहर, मौज]

¹ tul·nā vi to be weighed: फल तराज़ू में तुल गये हैं fruits have been weighed in the scales; आम तुलकर बिकते हैं mangoes are sold by weight. △ वे झगड़ा करने पर तुले बैठे हैं they are dead set to quarrel.
